1. Identity
A good identity record makes item attribution easier across the entire archive. Start with the simplest true version of the artist or brand and only add detail that helps identify it.
Logo
OptionalLogo Standards
- Upload a clear official logo with minimal artifacts or compression.
- Square format is recommended for consistency.
- Transparent background is preferred when source files are available.
Name
Name Rules
- Use the official name and punctuation.
- Keep capitalization accurate, for example COMME des GARCONS should match official usage where possible.
- Do not append extra terms like Official unless they are part of the name.
Slug
The slug is normally auto-filled from the name. In most cases, you do not need to edit it.
Edit the slug only when the auto-generated value is unclear or already in use.
Slug Formatting Rules
- Use lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens only.
- Avoid spaces, underscores, and special symbols.
- Keep the slug readable and tied directly to the brand name.
Slug Examples
| Name | Correct Slug | Incorrect Slug |
|---|---|---|
| Nike | nike | Nike_Official |
| Comme des Garcons | comme-des-garcons | comme des garcons |
| Y-3 | y-3 | y3-brand |
2. Details & Sources
Founding year and country of origin should reflect the strongest available evidence. If the artist or brand has a complex history, choose the most useful origin context and explain nuance in the description.
Founding Year
OptionalInclude this only when you can confirm the date from reliable sources such as official pages, releases, reputable business records, or established publications. If claims conflict, leave the field blank.
Country of Origin
OptionalCountry of Origin Rules
- Use the full country name, for example Japan instead of JP.
- If an artist or brand is global, use the original home country or headquarters as the best-supported entry.
- If the brand moved, was acquired, or restructured, choose the clearest current archival context and explain nuance in the description.
Description
OptionalWhat to Include in the Description
- Brief origin context and core merch or product focus.
- Notable design identity, cultural relevance, or key milestones.
Description Writing Style
- Be factual and neutral.
- Avoid hype language, unverifiable claims, and pasted marketing copy.
- Keep the description readable, but include additional context when it helps with archival understanding.
Aliases
OptionalAdd aliases only when they are true alternate names for the same artist or brand. These may appear publicly as Also known as names after moderation.
Alias Rules
- Use official stylings, former names, abbreviations, or common spellings.
- Do not add broad keywords, genres, related artists, unrelated brands, private notes, or search tuning terms.
- Internal search terms are managed by admins and are not public profile copy.
Reference Links
OptionalAdd sources that support naming, origin context, and identity details. Official pages and established coverage are preferred.
Reference Link Examples
- Official about page, release page, or history page
- Business registry or company profile
- Established editorial coverage documenting founding or origin
3. Review & Submit
The final step is a cleanup pass. Confirm the identity fields first, then make sure every optional detail you kept is supported by the linked evidence.
Submission / Edit Note
New submissions can include an optional moderator-only note. Edit suggestions should explain the requested change and the evidence behind it.
What We Usually Reject
- Duplicate identity records for an existing artist or brand.
- Unofficial or poor-quality logos that do not help identification.
- Origin, founding, or description claims without usable evidence.
By uploading logos or text, you confirm you have the right to submit them to the archive and that the material is accurate to the best of your knowledge. See the Terms of Use for the contribution license and conduct rules.
